Bacolod hosts 1st youth congress
Tubod, Lanao del Norte – More than 150 youth leaders from the coastal town of Bacolod participated in the first municipal youth congress to be held here in the province.
The participants are newly-elected Sangguniang Kabataan officers from the municipal-level and from the 16 barangays of Bacolod.
Dubbed as “SK Orientation and Leadership Seminar”, the activity is held at MacBoy Beach Resort, in Brgy. Rupagan from April 28 to 29, 2011.
The two-day seminar aims to empower the youth leaders of Bacolod by training them become effective catalysts of positive change in their community.
Taking a focal role in the seminar is provincial board member Alexander Ali, who is also the incumbent National Movement of Young Legislators (NMYL) Vice-President for Mindanao.
“We need to be involved in the training of these young legislators and take an active role in helping them become dynamic youth leaders. This is our way of bringing the provincial government closer to the people”, Ali stressed.
Also attending the first day opening rites to show their support are SK Federated President Sonaya Tawantawan, NMYL Provincial President Cesar Yap Jr., Alfons Marcera of the Mayor’s Office, Bacolod ABC Head Delia Cristobal, and Bacolod SK President Ned Labunog III.
“Other towns will also be conducting their own leadership trainings in the coming months before we will finally hold the province-wide youth congress in the capital town of Tubod”, Board member Tawantawan revealed.
The provincial government led by Governor Khalid Dimaporo has recognized the youth sector as its strong ally in promoting Lanao del Norte as the sporting hub of Mindanao. VNL/PIO-LDN
