Kapatagan Comelec harassed by candidate’s brother
Tubod, Lanao del Norte – Employees of the local Comelec in the town of Kapatagan were allegedly harassed by the brother of Liberal Party’s congressional candidate Tingagun Umpa.
According to the victims, Gamal Umpa suddenly arrived at the Comelec’s municipal office at 10 in the morning during election day and started berating employees for the missing names of his nieces in the precinct’s masterlist.
Unsatisfied by a Comelec staff’s explanation, Gamal Umpa allegedly slapped Ms. Arlene Ontoy which prompted Acting-Election Officer Vera Macas to seek police assistance.
Macas also did not escape the ire of Mr. Umpa when even she was threatened to “eat a grenade” and be re-assigned to Basilan should LP’s presidential standard bearer Noynoy Aquino win in the polls.
PNP Provincial Director Orlando Beñas has already instructed the Kapatagan police force to conduct an investigation of the incident and bring Gamal Umpa to justice.
