Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte. – True to its slogan “Yes, Kapatagan can!”, Mayor Benjie Baguio was ecstatic during  the inauguration rites after finally seeing the completion of the New Kapatagan Public Market on March 1, 2011 at Poblacion, Kapatagan, this province.



The activity started with a motorcade around the major streets of the municipality.



In his welcome address Vice-mayor Perlito Gonzaga stressed that peace and development would be best achieved with the corroborative efforts of its direct community, the provincial and municipal LGUs and other stakeholders.



For his part, Governor Khalid Dimaporo admired Mayor Baguio for taking an active role in bringing about progress and development in the province.



He added that numerous national projects and programs are currently being implemented in the Municipality of Kapatagan, such as the market loop, the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan - Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI–CIDDS), Mindanao Rural Development Program (MRDP) and Mindanao Basic Urban Services Sector Project (MBUSSP) of the Department of Finance

Gov. Dimaporo lauded the municipal leadership for embarking on the public market  project and stating that “this project which would benefit the people of Kapatagan and its neighboring municipalities”.

The newly inaugurated public market is expected to improve the quality of life of the urban residents of Kapatagan by providing, upgrading and rehabilitating basic local infrastructures and services.



The new public market has two project components: Infrastructure Investments, composed of construction, upgrading and rehabilitation; and Institutional Capacity Building Program, which comprises the overall management support.



The blessing and inauguration ceremony was led by Rev. Fr. Edgar Momay, parish priest of St. Francis Xavier Parish Church. Attending the rites were Governor Khalid Dimaporo, Mayor Benjie Baguio, former congressman Abdullah Dimaporo, DILG Regional Director Loreto Bhagwani, Board Member Benny Baguio, Vice-Mayor Perlito Gonzaga, members of the Sangguniang Bayan and municipal employees.  



In his speech, Mayor Baguio thanked the provincial government headed by Governor Khalid Dimaporo for providing the financial counterpart to finish the construction of the new public market. (Tsedeng)
