Lanao del Norte celebrates Provincial Environment Day


Tubod, Lanao del Norte – An estimation of 1, 000 people from the different part of Lanao del Norte converged in Mighty Cave Complex , Tagoloan, Lanao del Norte to celebrate environment day last June 29. Among the major events that will highlights the celebration of the 51st Araw ng Lanao del Norte is to acknowledge the richness and abundance we benefit from nature. This year, Tagoloan was chosen to host the said celebration so as to promote the cavernous Mighty Cave Park situated at the heart of the municipality.Tree planting activity was conducted earlier before the official program by the provincial officials and employees including the local government unit of Tagoloan.
"Think globally but we must act locally by engaging partners from all sectors of society, the government sector, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, youth, and the media to take part in all issues that concern our environment," said Maximo O. Dischoso, Regional Executive Director, DENR.
In his message, Gov. Khalid Q. Dimaporo empowered and encouraged the people to become active agents of sustainable and equitable development by protecting our environment.
Environment day is a day that stimulates awareness of the environment and enhances political attention and public action, thus, a move of determination to manage natural resources and deal with the most demanding challenge of the climate change.
In line with the program was the presentation of the fourteen young and beautiful candidates vying for the title as the Miss Lanao del Norte 2010 which was proudly presented by Ms. Minda Regis, Provincial Tourism Officer (PTO).
A press conference was followed to test the wit and eloquence of the candidates. When the candidates were asked what is the essence of true beauty, Miss Linamon, Krystyne Baclayon was applauded with her answer, “True beauty is when you find peace in your heart and share it to others, I am beautiful. Therefore I am”.
All the candidates were equally smart, displayed confidence and charisma of a beauty queen but only one of them will be crowned as Miss Lanao del Norte 2010. The darling of the press will be announced on the coronation night, July 3 at Mindanao Civic Center.
The event was made possible with the unified efforts of the Provincial Government, Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO) headed by Mr. Ramon Serapio and the Provincial Engineering Office (PEO). ARMS/PIO-LDN
