Lanao del Norte gears up for 2011 World Motocross Series
Quezon City, Metro Manila – During the press launching held at Rembrandt Hotel in Quezon City last April 8, Sel-J Sports president B. J. Lacnit announced that Lanao del Norte will be hosting the second and fifth legs of the highly anticipated World Motocross Series.
In the racing series, the country’s elite motocross riders will renew their rivalry and quest for fame and glory against the international superstars of the American Motocross Association (AMA).
Last April 9, the 2011 Enersel Forte Philippine National Motocross Series and World Motocross Series unfolded in the booming town of Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.
Among the top national riders that saw action were Glenn Aguilar and Donark Yuzon, both revered names and pillars in the sport.
Aguilar and Yuzon will spearhead the local riders as they defend their home turf against the much bigger and more experienced international racers.
“This series is part of our continuing commitment of reviving local motocross racing because we believe this is one sport where we have already proven that with the likes of Aguilar, Saulog and Yuzon, we are among the world’s best,” Lacnit added.
Last December 2010, Lanao del Norte hosted the first-ever international motocross in the country as the provincial government solidified its grip on the title as “The Motocross Capital of the Philippines”.
This year as the province celebrates its 52nd Araw ng Lanao del Norte, it will again host another international motocross event along with several highlights like the anticipated PBA basketball game and a concert by Pilipinas Got Talent grand winner Jovit Baldivino.
“We are finalizing the preparations for another grand celebration of our ‘Araw ng Lanao del Norte’. Governor Khalid has lined up numerous events that will showcase the beauty and bounty of our province”, Information Officer Lyndon Calica said.
Expected to lead the charge for the international riders in the Lanao del Norte races is an impressive line-up that includes American John “The Man” Locks and German siblings Daniel and Kai Sedlak, who are expected to give the Pinoy bets stiff opposition in the Open division. For one, Daniel Sedlak, 22, has an impressive track record, having won first place in the grueling Dubai Motocross Championships in 2007 and will be among the foreigners to watch in the event sponsored by Enersel Forte, Therasil, Bridgestone tires and Team Pacquiao.
The Iloilo stop of the Motocross World Cup is the first of four international races integrated into the 12-leg circuit whose grand finale will be on December 10-11 at the world-class MCC racetrack, in the capital town of Tubod, Lanao Del Norte. VNL/PIO-LDN
