Lanao del Norte 1st District Rep. Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo and Gov. Khalid Dimaporo (partially hidden) place their thumb marks in the commitment board during one of the peace gatherings initiated by the provincial government. The Dimaporos have always been staunch peace advocates in uniting the Muslim and Christian residents of the province.Tubod, Lanao del Norte – As local government units, peoples’ organizations and interfaith groups continue to celebrate the Mindanao week of peace, the provincial PNP of this province declared that Lanao del Norte still enjoys a stable security condition.

Recently, religious leaders call on Mindanao residents to “bring peace to everyone" as conflict areas continue to rebuild their communities from the atrocities of the past.

In a joint statement, Archbishop Fernando Capalla of Davao City, Hilario M. Gomez Jr., bishop of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) and Hamid A. Barra of the Ulama League of the Philippines urged Mindanawons to unite as one solid community in calling for a just and lasting peace.

“For us, peace is a prerequisite for genuine development”, Information Officer Lyndon Calica said.

The provincial LGU has been organizing numerous peace dialogues and inter-faith prayers between the three major ethnic groups in the area – Maranaos, Visayans and Lumads.

“Since Day One of Governor Dimaporo’s term, peace has always been his topmost priority”, PNP Provincial Director Orlando Beñas testified.

Even though the permanent solution to lasting peace in Mindanao remains to be elusive for the government peace panel, local peace initiatives made by the Lanao del Norte officials have successfully preserve the peace in this fast-rising province dubbed as the Motocross Capital of the Philippines.
