(photo by: Susan Barba-DLRC)Lala, Lanao del Norte. – The Boy Scouts of the Philippines Lanao del Norte Council won four major and minor awards in the recently concluded 1st Mindanao Scouts Jamboree held at Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Complex in Dao, Pagadian Citylast November 23 to 27, 2011.
“We sent more than 600 hundred delegates for the Mindanao-wide Jamboree to show our strong support to the scouting movement and to the host council,” Council Scout Executive Ariel Sayre said.
The boy scouts of this province were jubilant upon learning that they won one of the most coveted award in the Jamboree - the Biggest Delegation award. The more than 600 scouts and scouters who marched in their spick and span uniforms also got the nod of approval from the participating contingents from all over Mindanao during the opening ceremonies.
The council’s bridge-type with bahay-kubo camp gate filled with bright Christmas lights and other decors was adjudged as the best council camp gate built in Camp Limbaga.
The five-day gathering include such activities as obstacle valley, arena race, community service, skills competition like knot tying, emergency preparedness, lashing, signaling, map reading and compass course.
Hiking was also turned into a fun-filled event as the boy scouts walked more than 10 kilometers along winding trails and obstacles. Other activities in the jamboree were campfires and cultural presentations.
Staple in any major jamboree are the anticipated Silent Drill for the Senior Scouts and the Fancy Drill for the Boy Scouts which made the gathering more colorful.
Other awards received by the boy scouts of Lanao del Norte were in Signaling Contest and Semaphore Competition.
Another highlight of the jamboree for the Lanao Norte contingent was the visit of Governor Khalid Dimaporo in their camp which put the scouts in high spirits. The young governor pledged his strong support to the scouting movement and recognized the boy scouts’ contribution towards community development and nation-building.
Other members of the BSP Lanao Norte Council who took part in the 1st Mindanao Jamboree were Board Members Tominaman Sumalipao and Baldomero Zamora, Scouters Ray Cariño, Manny Imperial, Ben Tolero, Susan Bado, Grace Tolero, Roger Aguaviva, Lydon Calica, Atty. Jonathan Puno and Domingo Sacote as activity officer together with Diony Respuesto as deputy.
The Lanao Norte’s active participation to the recent Jamboree is the result of the collaborative effort between Governor Dimaporo, Council Scout Commissioner Dr. Maria Luisa Mutia, Deputy Council Scout Commissioner Martha Ll. Jumawan, and Auditor Virgilio Aleria.
Also on hand to witness the jamboree were Health and Safety Officers Merly Sulay, Jesselyn Bacotot and Shiela dela Cruz, Transportation Officer Engr. Arnie De Gracia, Physical Arrangement and Camp Artist Benoni Tolero, Jr. and Juanito Ballesteros, Quartermaster Jezrel Dadang. (Susan Barba – DLRC)
