Lanao Norte farmers undergo food safety training
Tubod, Lanao del Norte – 110 farmers together with their respective municipal crop specialists participated in the two-day training organized by 1st District Representative Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo in partnership with the Department of Agriculture at the Macapagal Training Center, Tubod, this province.
The training held last August 11 and 12, 2011 focused on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
The participants who are engaged in corn, banana, coconut, and rice farming came from the different towns of this fast-rising province.
The training taught the farmers on various methods to reduce the health risks brought about by microbial, physical and chemical hazards. It also provided them with practical information on how to safeguard workers’ health through food safety, cleanliness and discipline.
The farmer-participants were also introduced to the Product Safety Standards to encourage them to ensure the safety of their product.
“I’ve always been searching for ways to further improve the health of our people, that’s why I brought this valuable training here in Lanao del Norte. I believe that food safety begins in the farm. This training will equip our local farmers with the necessary knowledge on how to eliminate if not reduce the risk of producing unsafe farm products,” Rep. “Angging” Dimaporo expressed.
Also helping facilitate the farmers’ training are personnel from the Office of the Provincial Agriculture and the Office of the Provincial Community Affairs.
During the training, the participants were also made aware of the different aspects of food safety, food quality, and environmental protection. LAR/PIO
