Lanao Norte hosts Leg 13 of Cebuana Lhuillier tennis tournament
Tubod, Lanao del Norte – Junior netters from all over northern and southern Mindanao flocked to the state-of-the-art Mindanao Civic Center Sports Complex, Tubod, this province to participate in the five-day competition for the 2011 Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Tennis Championships.
This is Leg 13 of the tennis tourney that aims to identify promising tennis players in the grass-roots level and hone their skills for future national and international tennis competitions.
The organizers also hope to promote the sport of tennis throughout the country especially in rural areas by enticing standout athletes with scholarship grants.
87 netters from Bukidnon, Camiguin, Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Occidental, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Lanao del Norte came to compete in the 10 years and under, 14 years and under, and 18 years and under age brackets.
The provincial government through its Sports Coordinator Nelson Lasola lauded Cebuana Lhuillier for taking an active role in promoting a healthy lifestyle through sports.
“Governor Khalid Dimaporo has always been supportive of all kinds of sports but tennis has been one of his favorite”, Lasola revealed.
The Lanao Norte LGU provided food and accommodation for all the athletes and organizers throughout the tournament period from May 23-27, 2011.
“In behalf of Cebuana Lhuillier family, I would like to thank Gov. Khalid Dimaporo who has always supported us. For our part, for those qualified athletes who would like to study in U.P. Manila, Cebuana Lhuillier is willing to help sponsor their education”, Tournament Director Mario Crais said.
Other legs of the Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Tennis Series include Butuan City , Bohol, Surigao, Bais, Ormoc, Kalibo, Kidapawan City, Iligan City , Marawi City , Ozamis City , Banaybanay in Davao Oriental, Tubod, Davao City, Camiguin, Cagayan de Oro City and Gingoog City.
