Lanao del Norte Governor Khalid Dimaporo stresses the importance of reproductive health in building a progressive and economically vibrant province. Tubod, Lanao del Norte – The prevailing problems on maternal and children’s health in Lanao del Norte prompted the provincial LGU to conduct a province-wide reproductive health consultation.

Dubbed as Reproductive Health Forum, this activity aims to thresh out the underlying reasons of these health concerns.

“Through this activity, the people have realized how important reproductive health is in achieving a happy, healthy and empowered family”, Provincial Population Officer Ananette Daniel said.

The lack of information about reproductive health was identified as one of the factors that contributed to the increase in maternal complications and new-born baby ailments here in the province.

During plenary sessions, the participants determine the best solutions to lessen the threats on reproductive health.

Some of the recommendations made were to encourage complete immunization of babies, availment of pre and post natal care for pregnant women, hiring of additional doctors in municipal hospitals and the setting-up of a mobilization fund for youth activities.

The forum was done through cluster consultation and ran from November 3 to 16, 2010. Each cluster is composed of four to five municipalities.

The final report of the forum will guide the provincial leadership in its medical intervention programs to significantly improve the reproductive health of mothers in Lanao del Norte. VNL/PIO-LDN
