This fast-rising province won the top spot in Culture and Arts category for its Araw ng Lanao del Norte festivities and third place in Sports and Wellness category for the hugely successful Lanao del Norte International Motocross Championships.

Receiving the awards in behalf of the provincial government were Governor Khalid Dimaporo and Provincial Tourism Head Minda Regis.

“I am thankful that our promotional efforts are recognized by the DOT and ATOP. What we only wanted was to declare to the whole country that Lanao del Norte is not only the land of beauty and bounty but it is also a very peaceful place”, Governor Khalid Dimaporo expressed.

Also awarded first place in the Cultural Tourism Event (municipal level) is the capital town of Tubod for its Sagingan Festival.

Present for the awarding ceremony were Tubod Mayor Nelieta Noval, Councilor Eduardo Pido, and Municipal Tourism Head Marlon Palomares.

“We urged the other towns in the province to participate in next year’s Best Tourism Practices by ATOP and DOT. It’s time we showcase why Lanao del Norte is known as the land of beauty and bounty”, Regis said.

Participants in the annual tourism contest pass through a two-step screening process. First, is the review of documents presented relative to the organized event. Second, is a panel interview and final validation by an independent set of jurors.

The entry events are judged according to: achievement of event/projects (short-term and long-term benefits); involvement, participation and cooperation of general stakeholders; continuity and sustainability of the event/project; and contribution to the community.

Another anticipated event expected to draw hordes of people is the Paskuhan sa Lanao del Norte set to be held at the Agora area, Brgy. Sagadan, Tubod.

“Exciting prizes are at stake in the Christmas tree contest, Christmas belen contest, and lantern contest. Only 15 entries shall be accepted per category”, Regis announced.

The contests are open to the public. People’s organizations, cooperatives, LGUs, the business sector, civic groups and professional organizations are invited to send entries in the three categories. Cash prizes and trophies await the top winners. VNL/PIO-LDN
