Tubod, Lanao del Norte – The senseless killing of Provincial Prosecutor Macadatar Marsangca in Iligan City  has received strong condemnation from many sectors in Iligan City and Lanao del Norte. The killing is perceived as an attack on the judiciary and triggered several people’s organizations to clamor for the protection of those who uphold law, justice and truth.

In response to this incident, Lanao del Norte First District Representative Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo filed on August 5 House Resolution No. 158. The resolution strongly condemns the killing of Prosecutor Marsangca and calls on the Department of Justice to conduct an immediate investigation.

Marsangca had been successful in settling “rido” or clan fued in Lanao del Norte and even in other parts of Mindanao.

For his part, Governor Khalid Dimaporo also appealed to President Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino, Justice Secretary Lilia de Lima and PNP Chief Jesus Versoza for the protection of prosecutors, lawyers and judges. “They must be protected to preserve our court system and to render justice to all, as this is the key to our peace and the strong unity of the Muslims and Christians in the province”, Gov. Dimaporo said.

Police reports indicate that after the crime, the killers fled towards Brgy. Tambacan, Iligan City and that they are now the subject of a manhunt operation by Iligan policemen. VNL/PIO-LDN
