SND hosts Mindanao's first-ever night motocross
Tubod, Lanao del Norte – Riders from all over the country came to the coastal town of Sultan Naga Dimaporo formerly Karomatan, to race in the first-ever night motocross in Mindanao. Dubbed as “First SND Night Supercross”, the two-day competition started on December 6, 2010 at the SND racetrack, this province.
Riders in the amateur and professional categories came from the provinces of Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte and even as far as Cebu.
The competition started with an impressive fireworks display that left the crowd of more than 2000 spectators mesmerized.
“We are very thankful for the solid support of Governor Khalid Dimaporo”, expressed SND Mayor Ulwan Dimaporo. “His (Gov. Dimaporo) assistance contributed much to the success of this unique event”, he added.
One of the highlight of the contest is the race in the Underbone Category, where 10-year old Talamat Maruhom, the youngest member of the SND Racing Team, managed to win third place against the much experienced and taller riders in his category.
Maruhom’s victory was met with much festivity by the local crowd who helped cheered the young rider to victory in the highly contested final lap of the race.
The well attended supercross is another feather in the cap of Lanao del Norte as it stake its claim on the title as the motocross capital of the Philippines. LR/VNL
