Provincial Boardmember Macabangkit “Mac” Umping Tawantawan was a well-loved legislator and a staunch peace advocate of Lanao del Norte.Tubod, Lanao del Norte – Hundreds mourn the passing of Provincial Boardmember Macabangkit “Mac” Umping Tawantawan, a well-loved legislator and staunch peace advocate in this province. He died last April 1, 2011 at the Cebu Doctor’s Hospital due to Acute Myocardial Infarction and Pulmonary Thromboembolism.


The lawmaker was the youngest son of Sultan Gaos Macalambong Tawantawan and Madayao Umping Tawantawan.  He is survived by his wife Noriba A. Tawantawan and their two children.


Boardmember Tawantawan finished his studies at the University of Manila with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.


Before running for public office as member of the Sanggunian Panlalawigan, Tawantawan was a Major in the Philippine Army and later served as Police Superintendent in the Philippine National Police.


He was instrumental in reconciling feuding Maranao families and in strengthening Muslim-Christian partnership which is crucial in preserving the peace and order in both the coastal and interior communities in Lanao del Norte.


His remains was buried at his birthplace of Barangay Madaya, Salvador, this province, according to Maranao tradition. LAR-PIO/LDN
